Sophie Turner, best known for her role in Game of Thrones, has officially been cast as Lara Croft in Amazon’s upcoming live-action Tomb Raider TV series. The show is being reimagined by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who will serve as creator, writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge. Jonathan Van Tulleken, director of Shōgun, is set to direct and executive produce the first episodes.
Turner acknowledged the legacy of previous Lara Croft portrayals by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, saying, “They’re massive shoes to fill…” while expressing her excitement to take on the role. Production is scheduled to begin in January 2026, with a release date still to be announced. The series is being developed in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics, the original Tomb Raider game studio, and joins Amazon’s growing lineup of video game adaptations, including Fallout and God of War.
